Giant mining multinationals, such as BHP-Billiton, Rio Tinto, Exstrata and others, don’t want to pay taxes on their super-profi ts made from Australia’s rich mineral resources that belong to all the people. They want to keep the immense profi ts created by thousands of workers in the mining and transport industries. These profi ts have increased by 900% in the past 9 years, much of it sent overseas.
